What is therapy?
Psychotherapy, or "talk therapy" is a conversation between you and a trained therapist in a safe, confidential, and judgement-free environment. Therapy is intended to help you explore, understand, and improve your feelings, behaviors, and coping skills. Studies have shown psychotherapy to be the most effective method for improving a variety of mental health symptoms and responses to external stressors. It can be as light or in-depth as you like and use a variety of theoretical models and techniques to provide insight and promote positive change. Learn more about therapy and what to expect here.
Does my insurance cover services?
Your insurance plan may cover therapy services, but Campfire Counseling does not accept insurance payments at this time.
There are numerous benefits to both the therapist and client of not involving insurance providers, the biggest of which is your control over your care. Paying privately for therapy services means you do not have to be diagnosed with a mental disorder to receive treatment. Although diagnostic criteria can be explored and used to increase understanding and guide personalize interventions, not involving 3rd party payers allows us to have more creativity and flexibility in addressing your individual needs. Not only can you avoid being labeled, but you'll maintain privacy across your mental health records.
If cost is an issue, there are several options available, including a sliding scale fee, reduced-rate teletherapy sessions, and referrals to other providers.
What are community visits?
You or your loved one may be placed in a facility or struggling with mobility issues. This should never impede someone's ability to obtain quality counseling and support. Teletherapy is a great option for many people, but not the same as in-person connection and conversation, especially so for older adults, those with vision or hearing loss, or people with functional limitations who are suffering from isolation. I have spent the majority of my career meeting with people in their home settings and know firsthand the benefits of providing compassionate care where people are most comfortable, whether that be in their kitchen or at their bedside. Learn more about how at-home therapy is making a comeback here.
How long does counseling last?
Each counseling session lasts 50 minutes, but the amount and length of overall therapy can last as long as you'd like. Many initial appointments are intended to address an immediate issue, which can be resolved in under six weeks. Other times, people want to continue to explore other concerns or use therapy for ongoing support and self-improvement. Frequencies can be increased as needed or reduced for maintenance purposes. One major benefit of not involving insurance companies is YOU get to decide how much and how often you meet with your counselor.
What is psychedelic therapy and integration?
Psychedelic substances are tools that can help individuals make major breakthroughs in their mental health and wellness journeys. Research has shown the benefits of the use of Psilocybin, LSD, DMT/Ayahuasca, MDMA, and Ketamine in treating drug-resistant depression, trauma and PTSD, anxiety, addictions, grief, and more. Several states have used this research to approve the use of these tools in therapeutic settings. A necessary component of psychedelic interventions is integrating insights and improvements with an informed therapist to maximize the benefits gained from these medicines.
